Europe: microcars boom is coming
"Europe's microcar segment is set to explode", refers Frost & Sullivan's recently released "Strategic Analysis of the European Microcars Market".
According to AutoBlog Green, the firm's analysis shows that "microcars will soon become massive revenue generators for seven out of the top 10 global automakers. Challenged by stringent emissions regulations and heightened safety requirements, microcars have evolved, becoming clean and safe to drive".

In Europe, 60 microcars, including quadricycles, as Renault Twizy, will launch by 2012/2013. Moreover, 19 models will be launched by some of the world's biggest automakers.

Frost & Sullivan industry analyst Vishwas Shanka describes the microcar boom as the result of "the development of megacities, paralleled by changing mobility trends and growing interest in urban vehicles with low emissions and low fuel consumption".
Vishwas Shanka  also says that "greener agendas, government subsidies, parking charge exemptions and possible vehicle homologation rules of 'no-license' required to drive these vehicles could reinforce sales of microcars".

According to the blog, more than 75% of the microcars expected to launch within the next 36 months will be powered exclusively by batteries.
