The concern with CO2 emissions and energy efficiency in the industrial sector is materialised by way of several measures of the National Action Plan for Energy efficiency – Portugal 2015 (PNAEE) for the Industry Area.
Intensive Energy Consumption Management System - SGCIE
The Intensive Energy Consumption Management System (SGCIE) seeks to make energy in industry more competitive by way of financial and fiscal incentives, presenting measures which are transversal to the industry (electrical engines, heat and cold production, lighting and measures for efficiency in industrial process) and specific measures from various sectors.
SGCIE is applied to installations which are intensive energy consumers with annual consumption equal to or greater than 500 tep/year. By the end of February 2010 512 new installations had been recorded out of a total of 812 records. The objective of SGCIE involves the promotion of energy efficiency by way of the modification of manufacturing processes, introducing new technologies and changing behaviour.
PROGRAMME FOR COMPETITIVE ENERGY IN INDUSTRY Geared towards supporting SGCIE, the programme for Competitive Energy in Industry sets out to support industrial companies to increase energy efficiency, also reducing the energy invoice. The programme encompasses measures to support efficiency in the context of QREN (National Strategic Framework), as well as the promotion of the installation or reconversion of cogeneration systems.
